It was a few months before the government elections in Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Independence Day. We were sitting in the conference room and briefing on something when the conversation turned around a thought from Ronald Reagan saying that freedom is not something we get for granted but something every generation should fight for.
Let’s tell you now that in Bulgaria the vote is something you can buy and that’s a major issue when it comes to elections. That is how we came with the idea that we should start a movement. The idea was to release a video that would make people post #IAmIndependent on their social profiles in order to provoke their friends not to take money and vote for people who pay for their vote.
We were extremely honored to be joined on that idea with a partner who cared for it as deeply as we did and gave great ideas and amazing publicity to the campaign – Bulgaria’s biggest TV Channel – Nova Broadcasting Group. That is when we spoke with them and decided to aim even higher saying we should understand what Independence means, fight for it and protect it. It all happened because they said that there were even media that was strongly dependent on politicians and businessmen in Bulgaria. That is how a great idea began.
The next think was to write the voice over which should’ve been the most important part of the video that featured Bulgaria’s most known journalists and political TV shows hosts saying “I am independent”. The campaign had an enormous success and ran on TV from the Bulgarian Independence Day until the elections ended.
